An Unforgettable Coastline, One Bend at a Time
There’s something about the west of Ireland that grabs hold of your heart and doesn’t let go. Maybe it’s the roar of the ocean, the wind in your hair, or the raw beauty of cliffs and coast. But more than anything, it’s the feeling – that sense of freedom and wonder that hits you somewhere between Galway Bay and the tip of Donegal.
This is the Wild Atlantic Way, and I’ve had the great pleasure of showing it to travelers from all walks of life – especially those seeking a deeper connection to Ireland’s soul.
What Is the Wild Atlantic Way?
Spanning over 1,600 miles (2,500 km) of rugged coastline, the Wild Atlantic Way stretches from the windswept edges of Donegal in the north of Ireland to the charming town of Kinsale in the south. Along the way, you’ll pass through tiny fishing villages, ancient ruins, towering cliffs, and breathtaking beaches.
It’s a journey that’s never just about the destination – it’s about the people you meet, the stories you hear, and the moments you’ll never forget.
A Few Highlights I Never Miss
The Cliffs of Moher, Co. Clare Majestic, dramatic, and humbling. The Atlantic crashes below while seabirds circle overhead. It’s no wonder this is one of Ireland’s most iconic sights.
🎶 Doolin & Traditional Music Just down the road from the cliffs, this little village punches way above its weight when it comes to music and magic. Grab a pint, pull up a chair, and let the tunes take you back generations.
Connemara’s Untamed Beauty This region is like a poem written in stone, bog, and sky. Rolling mountains, winding roads, and wild ponies – pure, untouched Ireland.
The Ring of Kerry & Skellig Michael Ancient ringforts, stunning vistas, and – if weather allows – a trip to the mystical Skellig Islands where monks once braved the Atlantic in search of solitude.
Quiet Beaches & Secret Stops Some of my favourite moments aren’t in the guidebooks. A deserted strand at sunset. A coastal café with the best brown bread in Ireland. A roadside chat with a local who’ll tell you about “the time the storm knocked the roof off the church…”
